Cuba Fotolibro Archive

The Cuba Fotolibro Archive, a program of SoFLaFoto’s Photobook Art Lab, collects photobooks, catalogues, histories and periodicals of photography made in or about Cuba, from the 1930s to the present. It sets the work of Cuban photographers, on the island and in exile, beside that of the fotógrafos viajeros, the photographers from other countries who have made their pictures of Cuba since the nineteenth century. The two are kept apart because who holds the camera shapes the island that appears in the book.

Photobooks and monographs by Cuban photographers, on the island and abroad, grouped by period. Exile and diaspora gathers Cuban photographers who work outside the island.

Fotógrafos viajeros / Travelling photographers

Photobooks made in Cuba by photographers from other countries, on a short visit or a long stay, from Walker Evans in 1933 to the present. The term follows the historical category of the fotógrafo viajero in Cuban photography since 1841.
